Women Parliamentarians of AIPA

Earlier this month, YB Hjh Safiah and I had the privilege of attending the WAIPA 2024 event in Vientiane, Lao PDR. This visit marked our first trip to Lao PDR, ticking off a destination on my ASEAN bucket list.

The event, themed "Fostering Gender-Responsive Parliaments for a Resilient, Connected, and Inclusive ASEAN Community," was hosted by the National Assembly of Lao PDR. The program provided a platform for exploring how parliamentarians can ensure women's meaningful involvement in policymaking.

During a panel discussion on fostering connections and inter-generational collaboration among female leaders, I emphasized the vital role of technology and digital literacy in driving female participation. Digital-savvy women can use this knowledge to have their voices heard, rally support, and address pressing issues effectively.

Furthermore, as we develop the Plan of Action on Women's Political Participation 2024-2028, it is essential to consider the use of AI bots, especially in the creation of digital tools, resource databanks, and other aids to bolster women’s political participation.

Finally, I'm always moved by the stunning diversity of ASEAN and the way music brings us together. It was a true honor to witness the Vice Minister of Planning and Investment and the Chairwoman of the WAIPA share their musical talents.
