YB Queenie
22nd March 2023 (Day 15) of the Legislative Council 2023,
YB Chong recommended the Ministry of Health to educate and engage senior patients and their caregivers on the benefits of smartwatches dan wearable devices in healthcare. Seniors often struggle to communicate their symptoms, which can complicate diagnosis and treatment. Smartwatches and wearable devices can collect and transmit health-related data, offering valuable insights to healthcare providers. YB Chong suggested incorporating these devices into existing healthcare services to strengthen preventative measures and improve health outcomes for seniors.
The Ministry of Health recognizes the benefits of smartwatches and other Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in healthcare, especially for seniors who may be living alone. However, the use of these technologies must be balanced with their costs and benefits, and their implementation will be monitored by the Digital Health Unit to ensure their suitability and impact on healthcare delivery. The Ministry remains committed to providing quality healthcare to all.
